Proposed Work Licenses for DWI Offenders in NJ
At the present time, all DWI convictions in New Jersey require the suspension of driving privileges for different periods of time, depending on the occurrence of prior offenses.
There is proposed legislation that will allow drivers who are convicted of certain DWI offenses to be able to operate their cars after conviction, in limited circumstances by providing a work or limited use license upon installation of an Interlock Ignition Device ( IID ). This device requires a driver to blow into a portable breath test machine which is installed into the car and will prevent the vehicle from operating if alcohol levels exceed a certain amount ( .05% BAC ).
